CELEBRATION OF DON’S LIFE SERVICE: will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL with Rev. Jim Williams officiating.  Burial to follow in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, IL.

Donald E. Bailey, 90, Oblong, IL passed away at 3:35 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL.  Don was born on December 1, 1925 in Oblong, IL, the son of William Thamer Bailey and Ethel (Carter) Bailey.  On October 25, 1947 he married Donna Mae Waldrop and she preceded him in death on December 27, 2011.

Don was a graduate of the Oblong High School Class of 1943; he proudly served his country in the United State Army during World War II where he served in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns.  He was an employee of Marathon Oil Company, Robinson, IL, retiring in 1986, after 37 years of employment, where he worked as an operator in the Hydrogen Unicracker.  He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church of Oblong and a life member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69.  Don enjoyed boating, water skiing, and fishing.  He was an assistant baseball coach when the boys played ball.  He also enjoyed gardening, playing cards and traveling the U.S.A. in the motor home that he and Donna owned.  Don and Donna enjoyed the cruise they took to Australia in 1990.

Don is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law Mike and Lydia Bailey, Willow Hill, IL; Van and Sharon Bailey, Mason, MI; his daughter and son-in-law Pam and David Bennett, Pleasanton, CA; nine grandchildren: Kyle and Tawnya Bailey, Kirk and Kendra Bailey, Darice Bailey, David Shawn Chamblin, Michelle Brown, Marci and Chad Crandall, Sandy and Paul Kreps, Chris and Melody Bennett, and Kelli Cooke; fifteen great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim and Charly Waldrop, Barling, AR; along with several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters: Katherine Seversin and Gladys Nolan; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law Delores and Gene Harris, Patty and Harold “Pud” Fry, and Carol Waldrop.
